1. Water

This makes number one on my list of skin glowing foods because we NEED water. Our bodies thrive off this perfect liquid so when you deprive the body of it, it will scream. Water helps flush out toxins, flatten the tummy, and keep skin looking hydrated and nourished. Drink your bodyweight AT LEAST, and drink even more when consuming caffeine or in your time of the month. Keeping your skin hydrated from the inside out will clear out pimples and flare-ups.

2.Omega 3’s

omega 3 for skin and hair

Omega 3’s are an essential part of keeping the skin looking youthful, radiant and fresh. They contain healthy fats and the extra bonus of brain and eye health.

Once you include more of these in your diet, you will clear those pesky pimples right away. Get your Omega 3’s by eating walnuts, hemp seeds, chia seeds, sesame seeds, and flax seeds.

3. Food Oils

If you have naturally oily skin and keep breaking out, try using hemp oil. While it is hydrating and nourishing, it is slightly drier than most but helps fight acne too.

For drier skin, Flax oil is great because of the soothing properties and high-fat content your skin can absorb. There are many benefits of flax oil for the body as well that you can read about here.

A study showed that women who supplemented with flaxseed oil had noticeably less roughness and smoother skin (1). If you do not have access to flax oil, avocado oil is another wonderful option.

4. Green Tea

This has been a cult favorite in Asia for many years for its amazing anti-inflammatory benefits, and anti-aging properties. Not only will it hydrate and clean your skin from the inside out, but you can also reuse the tea bags for an eye mask to decrease puffiness.

My favorite matcha tea is this one.

5. Avocado

A nourishing fruit that will transform your skin miraculously! Avocados are a beauty food because of the healthy fat content, which can moisturize your skin from the inside out, reducing fine lines making it plumper. However, it is best to eat the avocado instead of slathering it on as a facemask because of how heavy the fats are- they can clog your pores!

Check out my post on why avocados are so amazing in other ways than just skin and hair.

6. Almonds

Great for skin, nails, and hair, almonds contain lots of vitamin e which is great for preventing aging to the skin. Opt for almond milk for that Starbucks latte!

Berries for glowing skin

7. Berries

Berries contain astonishing antioxidants that can help achieve supple glowing skin. Their antioxidant and vitamin content is so powerful that it can decrease redness and puffiness in the face. Berries to include are blackberries, blueberries, strawberries.

8. Red Pigmented Foods

Sweet potatoes and carrots contain beta carotene, a form of vitamin A (1). Vitamin A is a form of retinol which is the culprit of aging skin care (2).

No need to buy all those expensive harsh anti-wrinkle creams, opt for a nice luscious sweet potato instead!  Personally, I notice a huge difference in my skin when I eat more of these. Foods to eat: Beets, carrots, sweet potato, apricots

beets for skin glow

9. Beets

Beets are so powerful because of the beta carotene, iron, manganese, and vitamin C they have (1). They have the added perks of regulating blood sugar and enhancing athletic performance (2)

They taste fantastic added in smoothies, juices, roasted, hummus, soup, or even a beet latte. Don’t have time to make beets? Get a beetroot powder that has all the same qualities as beets!

10. Citrus

glowing hair and skin

Vitamin C keeps the skin glowing and strengthens the immune system, fighting off antibodies that can attack your skin from the inside. Foods: Lemons, Limes, Grapefruit, Oranges, Tangerines, Clementines. Keeping them on the counter to reach for is the ultimate savior to health and beautiful skin.

11. Spices

It wouldn’t be a super skin food list without powerful turmeric. Turmeric is an extraordinary anti-inflammatory spice that reduces redness and blemishes (1). Add some turmeric powder and pepper to a drink, smoothie, tofu scramble and many other foods for the epic qualities it gives. Just be careful not to stain your blender or counter!

Another amazing spice is cinnamon because of its special healing properties like, antiseptic, antifungal, and cleaning of acne pimples (2)

Try these Cinnamon Waffles

Try this Turmeric Latte

12. Leafy Greens

kale and spinach benefits

It’s no surprise these veggies are on this list. Greens are chocked full of remarkable vitamins and minerals. Some of the nutrients include: iron, chlorophyll, and vitamin E. To obtain these wondrous nutrients, you can add them to just about anything. For a nutritious dinner, steam them to fully absorb all the goodness and green they contain possess. Foods to include: spinach, kale, chard

13. Spirulina

A form of algae that is not only superb for the skin but like beets can improve workouts and anemia. It is very nutrient dense including lots of qualities that we need on a daily basis like iron, magnesium, calcium, and protein. Get this in powder or vitamin form for a powerful antioxidant to the skin. It protects the skin and body from free radicals and other harmful bacteria’s.

14. Probiotics

To get your skin clear, we talked about cleaning it from the inside out, which means gut health too. Clear out the junk in your skin by adding more healthy gut bacteria’s like kimchi, sauerkraut or kombucha.

Bad bacteria can build up from too much processed food or sugar which can affect our bodies way of releasing these toxins. Once you start adding more probiotics in your diet, you will notice a HUGE difference in not only your skin but your digestion as well.

I want to eat all of these now because thinking about all of these foods helping my skin glow is something that I love!

Not only are these beauty foods easy to find, but most are also super cheap and you probably have in your pantry or fridge.

Not sure what Kind of probiotic to get?
